Cloud Certification Study Notes
Cloud Cert Notes is a free study-notes library for cloud certification exams. Every page is written by our editorial team from the provider's official documentation and the official exam guide — never copied from other notes sites, forums, or exam dumps — and organised the way candidates actually revise: one service at a time, in the order the exam guide presents it.
The library launches with Google Cloud, because that is where our team's hands-on study is deepest. You will find complete notes for the Associate Cloud Engineer (ACE) exam across all five of its exam-guide sections, a foundation-level section for the Cloud Digital Leader (CDL) exam, head-to-head comparison pages for the service choices the exams test hardest, and an original practice quiz for each ACE section, every question with a full explanation.
Start with the Associate Cloud Engineer exam
The ACE is Google Cloud's associate-level, job-focused certification for engineers who deploy, monitor and maintain cloud solutions. Our notes follow the official exam guide section by section, so you can study in the same structure in which you will be tested. Open the ACE hub to see the full map, or jump straight into a section from the topic navigation.
New to cloud? Start with Cloud Digital Leader
The Cloud Digital Leader exam is Google Cloud's foundation certification, aimed at anyone who needs to explain what the cloud does for an organisation without configuring it. Our CDL section covers its domains — digital transformation, data and AI innovation, infrastructure modernisation, and security and operations — in plain language, and doubles as a gentle on-ramp before ACE study.
Comparisons and practice quizzes
Exams rarely ask what a service is; they ask which of two similar services fits a scenario. Our comparison pages — Cloud SQL versus Spanner versus Bigtable, the four compute platforms head to head, storage classes, and the three data-processing engines — exist to train exactly that judgement. Each ACE section then ends with a ten-question practice quiz written by our team, with explanations that tell you why the wrong options are wrong.
How these notes are written
Each notes page follows the same pattern: what the service is, the key facts worth memorising, what the exam expects, a when-to-use-it comparison against its nearest alternative, the traps that catch candidates, and a short FAQ. Figures that can change — quotas, defaults, retention periods — are phrased carefully and dated; when in doubt, the official documentation linked from our About page wins.
Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud and Alibaba Cloud sections are in build and will open on this site as each one reaches the same depth — we would rather launch one cloud properly than five clouds thinly.
The five ACE sections
Section 1 of the Associate Cloud Engineer exam guide covers everything that happens before real workloads run: creating and organising projects, setting up billing, establishing identities, and learning the tools you will use every day.
Section 2 is the planning section: given a business requirement, can you choose the right compute, storage, database and network design, and estimate what it will cost? It carries one of the largest weights in the exam guide, and it rewards candidates who can compare services against each other rather than merely describe them..
Section 3 turns plans into running systems.
Section 4 is about keeping systems healthy once they are live: collecting and reading logs with Cloud Logging, building metrics, dashboards and alerts in Cloud Monitoring, tracing latency and errors with the observability tools, and using Cloud Audit Logs and Cloud Asset Inventory to answer 'who changed what, and when?'.
Section 5 covers configuring access and security: IAM roles and policies, service accounts and keys, organisation policy constraints, encryption with Cloud KMS, secrets with Secret Manager, and the perimeter and data-protection services — Cloud Armor, Identity-Aware Proxy, VPC Service Controls and Sensitive Data Protection..
